Industrial Wood Laser Cutting & Engraving Systems

Precision Timber Processing

High-Yield CO2 Laser Systems for Solid Wood, Plywood & MDF

Engineered for high-volume manufacturing environments, Kern’s CO2 laser systems cut and engrave a wide spectrum of natural wood species and engineered timber products. By combining high-power super-pulsed laser sources (150W to 800W) with rigid industrial motion platforms, manufacturers achieve clean cut edges, zero tool-deflection, and high-speed 3D raster engraving with sharp detail.

Full Sheet Processing

Accommodate 4x8 ft and 5x10 ft full sheet goods with integrated downdraft vacuum tables. Material stays flat while fumes and airborne micro-particles are actively evacuated.

  • Zero mechanical clamping required
  • Pass-through table configurations
  • Consistent focus depth across full bed

3D Relief & Grayscale Engraving

KCAM software translates true 256-level (8-bit) grayscale files directly into 256 distinct laser power outputs for smooth relief carving and dimensional texture.

  • High-resolution 3D depth control
  • Array-multiplication on X-axis
  • Minimal charring on light hardwoods

Tight Kerf & Minimum Waste

Laser kerf widths as low as 0.005” enable tight nesting of intricate components, dramatically reducing timber raw material waste compared to standard CNC router bits.

  • Square internal corners
  • No mechanical blade wear or maintenance
  • Immediate cut-to-assembly precision
Technical Compatibility

Supported Wood Species & Industrial Applications

Our heavy-duty laser platforms deliver repeatable edge quality across diverse density profiles—from soft balsa to dense tropical hardwoods and resin-bonded MDF boards.

Compatible Substrates

  • Hardwoods (Oak, Maple, Cherry, Walnut)
  • Softwoods (Pine, Cedar, Fir, Spruce)
  • Engineered Wood (MDF, Chipboard)
  • Cabinet-Grade Plywood & Veneers
  • Exotic Hardwoods & Natural Cork

Primary Industry Uses

  • Architectural Screens & Wall Art
  • Commercial & Exterior Wood Signage
  • Custom Furniture & Cabinet Inlays
  • Urns, Caskets & Keepsake Boxes
  • Personalized Kitchenware & Boards

Laser vs CNC Router Advantages

  • Higher Speed: Faster contour cutting on thin to medium panels
  • Intricate Detail: Zero tool radius limits on internal cutouts
  • Clean Environment: Exhaust evacuations reduce free sawdust
  • Dual Operation: Cut and engrave within a single job file
Advanced Grayscale Engraving

3D Laser Relief Carving on Hardwood & Veneers

Achieving realistic 3D laser engraving demands exact pulse control and precise power calibration. Kern CO2 lasers use native 8-bit grayscale bitmap interpretation to adjust beam output dynamically during high-speed raster movement.

Grayscale File Preparation

Engineers and artists format vector or raster graphics into 256-level grayscale bitmaps using standard CAD/CAM software. Lighter shades represent shallow cuts, while darker tones drive deeper laser penetration into the grain.

Array Production Efficiency

With KCAM multi-file arraying, identical 3D designs are multiplied across the gantry. The laser head scans the entire width of the machine in a continuous pass, finishing multiple parts simultaneously for maximum hourly throughput.

Fume & Debris Management

High-volume blower blower setups pull smoke and carbon residue straight down through the vacuum grid or into air filtration systems, keeping wood faces clear of heavy smoke staining.
