OptiFlex
Our most versatile large format laser cutter and engraver. Open-bed flexibility with optional fiber source for metal, plus high-speed engraving on wood and acrylic.
Kern Laser Systems has been designing and building industrial laser cutting and laser engraving machines since 1982. Every frame is welded, machined, wired and run-tested at our factory in Wadena, Minnesota — then signed off by the same engineers who answer your support call.
That vertical integration is why production teams in signage, aerospace tooling, furniture, packaging, awards and metal fabrication run Kern machines in two- and three-shift environments for a decade or longer.
Choose the configuration that matches your material, sheet size and safety requirement. Every system shares the same welded steel frame, servo motion package and KCAM control environment.

Our most versatile large format laser cutter and engraver. Open-bed flexibility with optional fiber source for metal, plus high-speed engraving on wood and acrylic.

Full performance inside a fully enclosed Class 2 safety cabinet. Ideal for busy factory floors, university labs and shared production spaces.

Compact fiber laser for stainless, mild steel, aluminum, brass and copper. New pullout table and part drawer speed up load and unload cycles.

Entry-level access to large format laser cutting. Same rigid frame and CO2 source family at a capital cost that fits growing job shops.

Small format work area with full industrial CO2 power. Built for shops with limited floor space that still need production-grade output.

Two or three laser heads on a single gantry with matched output power — double or triple production while holding part-to-part consistency.
Cut quality is not marketing — it is beam control, motion rigidity and thermal management working together. These are the specifications our engineering team designs around.
Super-pulsed sources from 150 W to 800 W, all covered by a 3-year warranty.
Ground linear rails and closed-loop servos hold tolerance across the full bed.
Clean-edge cutting on stainless, mild steel, aluminum, brass and copper.
Four decades of continuous in-house design, build and field service.
Built and serviced in-house with a 3-year warranty. Pulsing control delivers crisp engraving detail and reduced heat-affected zones on acrylic and wood.
Machine vision locates printed registration marks and compensates for skew and stretch — contour cutting on preprinted graphics without jigs.
Native nesting, power/speed libraries per material, multi-head power matching and job queueing from a single operator station.
Pipe and tube rotary attachments, fume extraction interlocks and Class 2 enclosure options engineered as part of the machine, not bolted on.
Select a material family to see recommended platforms, typical thickness ranges and the production details that matter on the floor.
Fiber sources cut reflective and ferrous metals with a narrow kerf and minimal burr, so parts move straight to welding or forming with little secondary finishing.
| Primary platform | FiberCELL — enclosed fiber |
|---|---|
| Flexible option | OptiFlex hybrid CO2 + fiber |
| Assist gas | Nitrogen, oxygen or shop air |
| Add-ons | Pipe & tube rotary, part drawer, pullout table |
Correct power-to-speed ratios on cast acrylic produce a flame-polished edge straight off the bed — eliminating sanding and buffing labour on display work.
| Primary platform | LaserCELL or OptiFlex |
|---|---|
| Sheet handling | Full 4 x 8 ft sheet, pass-through option |
| Registration | K-Vision camera for printed faces |
| Throughput boost | OptiDual multi-head gantry |
Super-pulsed beam control keeps char to a minimum on light woods while still driving through thick plywood in a single pass — the balance custom woodworkers need.
| Primary platform | OptiFlex / EcoFlex |
|---|---|
| Engraving | High-speed raster with variable power |
| Extraction | Integrated down-draft and fume control |
| Compact option | Micro small format platform |
Non-contact cutting means no blade deflection on soft goods. Foam tool-control inserts, gaskets and sealed-edge synthetic fabrics come off the bed ready to ship.
| Primary platform | OptiFlex large format |
|---|---|
| Volume option | OptiDual two or three heads |
| Software | KCAM nesting and job queueing |
| Benefit | Sealed edges, zero tooling change cost |
Experience beats claims. These manufacturers run Kern systems as core production assets — see how they configured their machines and what changed in their workflow.
From one-off custom cuts to repeatable batch production on a single large format bed.
Non-contact cutting removed blade wear and tooling changeover from the daily schedule.
High-volume engraved wood product with consistent detail across every shift.
Bring your own material. Watch a Kern system cut it, measure the edge and take the sample home — the fastest way to qualify a laser platform for your parts.
Product launches, industry awards and engineering updates from our Minnesota factory.

The Minnesota Chamber of Commerce recognised Kern Laser Systems among the state’s standout manufactured products.

Recognition of sustained export growth and the global reach of US-built Kern laser systems.

Load one table while the laser cuts the other — a direct attack on idle spindle time in high-mix production.
Straight technical answers to the questions our engineers hear most from overseas buyers and plant managers.
Kern CO2 systems process acrylic, wood, plywood, MDF, leather, foam, rubber, textiles, paper, delrin and natural stone. Fiber-equipped systems such as the FiberCELL cut stainless steel, mild steel, aluminum, brass and copper. Hybrid OptiFlex configurations combine CO2 and fiber sources on one gantry so a single machine moves between metal and non-metal jobs without re-fixturing.
Table sizes run from a compact 24 x 24 inch Micro platform up to 5 x 10 ft and larger on OptiFlex and OptiDual systems. Extended-bed and pass-through configurations handle full 4 x 8 ft sheet goods and roll material, which removes secondary handling and trimming from your process.
Super-pulsed CO2 sources are offered from 150 W to 800 W, and fiber sources from 1 kW to 3 kW. All Kern-built CO2 laser sources carry a 3-year warranty — one of the longest coverage periods in the industrial laser market — because we build and service those sources ourselves.
Every machine is engineered, welded, assembled and run-tested at our factory in Wadena, Minnesota, USA. Support is delivered directly by Kern technicians through phone, remote desktop diagnostics, spare-parts shipment and on-site service, backed by a global distributor network for export customers.
Yes. Our collaborative manufacturing programme covers contract laser cutting, prototype development and OEM integration of Kern motion and laser platforms into partner equipment. Engineering drawings, throughput studies and material test cuts are part of that process.
Ship us your sheet, foam or metal stock. Our application engineers run it on the recommended platform, document the parameters and return the sample with an edge you can inspect.
